About SDJF:

Sri Lanka Development Journalists Forum is a well-established national level non-profit and non-governmental organization since 2009 having extensive experience in promoting the role of media in democratization and transformation. SDJF works closely with international media development agencies, local media organisations, universities, civil society organisations, youth and women development movements engaged in promoting democracy and human rights in Sri Lanka.

About the Women Lead Project

The project will provide a remarkable opportunity for female political representatives to learn critical communication and basic media skills. Participants will meet real journalists and learn as to how to face media interviews and articulate critical answers to misleading and tough questions; how to prepare a solid speech, statement for media, how to practically use social media sphere not only to promote their activities but also to engage their community, how to use the mobile phone and social media safely and securely without getting into threats and online harassment.

Description and Objective of the Assignment

Conduct 3 days of introductory training on Critical Communication and media skills: Based on the training manual developed by SDJF, selected women members are invited for a 3 days of introductory training in the North. SDJF will choose a venue which is more comfortable and secure for women representative to express their feelings and learn. SDJF has designed the training program more interactively with real-world experiences and exercises. The training environment will be created a need to communicate with the participants in a way everyone will have an opportunity to improve their own communication skills. In this training program participants will undergo (i) Basics of communication (ii) Critical communication skills (iii) Public speaking (iv) media briefing (v) Tips to speak in the council (vi) New media tools – Using smartphone, social media tools, ethics and responsibility (v) Writing article and press releases (vi) Written submissions (vii) Official letter writing, etc SDJF will use 2 lead trainers and 2 co-trainers to facilitate one to one learning and coaching.

Roles and responsibilities:

  1. Provide a comprehensive session plan for the training
  2. Conduct three-day training for maximum five participants in all five district
  3. Provide virtual assistance for participants if required
  4. Assist preparing pre-and post training evaluation questionnaire
  5. Provide inputs for program director for improving future training
  6. Facilitate/ conduct any follow-up training for the same beneficiaries
  7. Strictly follow the guidelines issue d by the health ministry on COVID-19

Qualifications:

The consultant should possess:

  • At least three years’ national and/or international experience as a lead trainer in one or more of the themes mentioned above.
  • A high level of practical experience or demonstrated knowledge in a range of skills related to the themes mentioned above, to provide highly customized trainings. Competitive applicants will be requested to provide references.
  • Ability to conduct sessions in the local language (Tamil).
  • Strong interpersonal skills, work ethic and ability to work in a multicultural environment.
  • Willingness to work Northern Province.
  • Proven ability to plan strategically and innovatively to meet objectives.
  • Critical thinking ability to anticipate challenges and find solutions.
